Outreach:

Get Net Smart for Good Health

"Get Net Smart for Good Health" is a guide to teaching high school students how to use the Internet to find reliable health information. The program has two goals: 1) to inform students about reputable gateway health sites and 2) to teach them how to use consumer health web sites critically and safely.

The program includes guidelines on how to evaluate Internet sites and recommendations of reputable health sites for laypeople. Exercises require students to evaluate sample web sites by ranking certain features and then by playing roles in mock courtroom cases involving the sites. For a service-learning opportunity, students can share some of their new knowledge of health sites with older members of their family or community.
