2004 Youth Leadership Institute

Project Export – Outreach Core sponsored its 2004 Youth Leadership Institute. The purpose is to learn how youth can educate other youth and their families about prevention and treatment of the metabolic syndrome. The program focuses on interactive participation to challenge youth leaders to live healthier lives by changing health habits including healthy eating, exercise, and reducing stress.


Part I – Youth Leadership Training Conference, Medical University of South Carolina Wednesday June 23 – Friday June 25, 2004. Thirty five youth from across the state of South Carolina, 14 years and older, were trained as youth leaders to design, plan and implement an education program that focuses on reducing metabolic syndrome for families and youth in their community.


Part II – Youth Leadership Development Conference, Allen University, Columbia South Carolina, Wednesday July 21, 2004. Youth Leaders trained in session one participated in delivering an education program on the metabolic syndrome to approximately 2000 children at the Leadership Conference of the 7th Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church
